Lunch with the Bishop

Steve Bishop, that is.

 A good friend for the past 25 years, Steve brougth some take-out Chinese for lunch today. We caught up on past events and updated on what’s coming in the future.

 Tonight, my good firends Bob and Sue will be over with the full rundown on their recent trip to Quebec, Canada for a family wedding celebration at the historic Fountianaque Hotel.

On Sunday, a resident’s pot luck supper. I’m making Mac & Cheese.

Next Thursday, it’s me and beautiful Vicky for lunch at the Peppermill. In between, it’s the regular daily “crew” in the dining room.

What shapes us into who we are? The places we come from and the families that raised us, the things that we loved and things we lost. Our roots are connected to place, to time, and to others. Our family’s influence on us reaches back generations.

This winter, Artistry’s 11th issue celebrates “roots”–our family history, our forebearers, our own personal history that made us who we are.

An spoken version of my essay Iron Mike is a new feature for the Winter 2007 issue, the first time that an audio recording is available for the magazine.
